When he makes his second start on Friday at home against the Astros, he will face an offense that’s been firmly in the middle of the pack in terms of whiff rate and overall production. It was a tough test, too, as the Giants have the third-lowest SwStr% (9.2 percent) and fourth-highest wOBA in the month of June. That went a long way towards Sheehan holding the Giants hitless and scoreless despite the lack of whiffs. It’s fair to say that he worked high in the strike zone. In last Friday’s debut, Sheehan didn’t get many strikeouts (three in six innings) or whiffs (four in 89 pitches), but on the 10 flies and popups he induced, hitters averaged an astronomical 52.1 degree launch angle. Sheehan also got a ton of popups at each level (28.6 percent IFFB/FB in High-A, 34.1 percent in Double-A), and at Tulsa, that translated into a. A high strikeout rate isn’t the only thing he carried over from last season’s stint in the Midwest League. His prospect profile has risen this season thanks to a 41.7 percent strikeout rate and 1.86 ERA over 53.1 innings at Tulsa. Last Friday, the Dodgers promoted Emmet Sheehan from Double-A Tulsa to make his major league debut against the Giants. Naylor has one clear advantage in that Progressive Field is a much more conducive park for extra-base hitting for lefties than PNC Park is for righties. Over the past two seasons in the minors, he has avoided strikeouts more consistently while exhibiting much stronger pull tendencies than his Guardians counterpart. Unless you are worried about Davis not retaining catcher eligibility into next season (a fear that may or may not be founded), he profiles as the slightly better fantasy option. Henry Davis and Bo Naylor are both catcher-eligible, but whereas Davis will play mostly right field for the foreseeable future, Naylor started three consecutive games behind the plate for the Guardians before sitting against the Athletics on Thursday. In some leagues it may be too late to add them, but by no means is it too late everywhere, and now we’ve had a few days to see them play. Last weekend’s prospect promotionsĪ few prospects were called up before last Sunday’s bidding deadlines but after this column was published early on Friday. As has seemingly been the case all season, there have been quite a few in the past week. ![]() One trend I’m not departing from is leading off with some recently-recalled prospects.
